For bookworms

I have read and re-read these book many times in the last few months. I don’t agree with everything that is written in them. You don’t have to either. Please don’t take anything for granted, use critical thinking and your best judgement to form your own opinions. The authors of these books wouldn’t expect anything less.

1. Gary Taubes “Diet Delusion” if you live in Oz or NZ, or “Good Calories Bad Calories” elsewhere
A must-read if you are serious about nutrition and metabolism

2. Gary Taubes “Why we get fat”
An easier read for those with minimal nutritional knowledge and/or no science background

3. Barry Groves Trick and Treat”
A fascinating insight into how medicine has turned into big business

4. Uffe Ravnskov “Fat and cholesterol are GOOD for you”
A medical doctor, PhD and a long-term campaigner against the cholesterol theory

5. Robb Wolf  “The Paleo Solution, the Original Human Diet”
A fun and educational primer on Paleo nutrition

6. Mark Sisson “The Primal Blueprint”
Easy read on primal lifestyle
When I figure out how to link with Amazon, hopefully I will have some pretty pictures of the above tomes. For now you will have to do your own googling.

      • I am not fond of the Jaminets advice of a pound of starch a day to a pre-diabetic, carb sensitive population based on what largely seems to be anecdotal evidence.

They seem to have found a wonderful market for the paleo crowd still sold on the idea you need to carb up to work out. I, and other zero carbers are living proof that is not the case.

  1. Hello Anastasia,

We were discussing infant formula in Melbourne, and I came across this selection of adverts and one was about formula. It had a statement about using raw cows milk, cod liver oil and bificobacterium infantis, suggested in the book, Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. Have you heard of this? Would love your thoughts.

  2. Hello Anastasia;

I am happy to announce the publication of my new cookbook, Primal Cuisine, Cooking for the Paleo Diet. The forward was written by Portland nutritionist, Nora Gedgaudas, author of Primal Body, Primal Mind: Beyond the Paleo Diet for Total Health and a Longer Life.

Primal Cuisine is entirely grain-free (therefore gluten-free), sugar free, (including honey, agave and maple syrup). I have included dairy in some recipes but also have many substitutions for those who are lactose or casein intolerant.

Having been a chef and wine country caterer for over 35 years, the recipes in the book are innovative and translate the paleo diet in a way that families or foodies can appreciate.

Please view the following link for a demonstration of one of the recipes from the book.
